Wendel milestones: an overview

1932

Invention of the first lead-free enamel

Company founder Karl H. Wendel, foreman of the enamelling plant and part-time alternative practitioner, develops the first lead-free majolica in the world, thus making an important contribution towards elimination of the cause of lead poisoning.

1982

Wendomail

A revolutionary product. Wendel launches an enamelling product that allows the 2 coat / 1 fire enamelling process. A milestone in development.

2000

Calcium-free glazes for roof tiles

Clouding in roof tile glazes is often caused by the presence of calcium in the frit or glaze. Wendel responded successfully to this problem and has continued developing calcium-free glazes since then.

2006

Dielectric enamel

Dielectric enamel is a ground-breaking innovation that allows water boilers or coffee machines, for instance, to be heated up rapidly, thus saving energy. This enamel guarantees the best possible user safety.

2013

Engobes for roof tiles

The new coloured-matt surfaces complete the proven Wendel glaze range. Our glazes are also calcium-free and available as ready-to-use slip.

2017

A traditional family-owned business

Wendel stands for local presence and continuous further development with a drive that is characteristic of owner-managed companies. The pioneering spirit of Karl H. Wendel was, and still is, our model.

    1963

    Titanium enamel powder “type W”
The invention of acid-resistant titanium powder enamels replaces common zirconium powders. Brilliant opacity allowed for bright-white, ultra-thin and, for the first time, acid-resistant layers – this invention made Wendel a leader in casting enamel powders on the world market – and this is still the case today.

    Glossary

    Enamel

According to RAL 529 A (1940), enamel is a mass that is produced by melting or fritting; an inorganic and essentially oxidic composition fused onto metallic components in one or more layers, partly with additives.

    Enamel frits

Depending on the quenching process of the smelt, granules or flake-shape substances (so-called flakes) are produced when quenched with water or during the roller cooling. Granules and flakes are called enamel frits.

    Coil Coating

Coil-Coating (Bandbeschichtung) ist ein industrielles Verfahren, in dem gewalzte Stahl- und Aluminiumbänder kontinuierlich beschichtet werden.
